As I talk to my B.A. students about politics, I frequently hear the argument “My vote doesn’t matter.” There is a feeling out there that Washington is guilty of making mountains out of obscure party-centric molehills in issues such as debt and guns while issues that small pockets of individuals really care about are unheard (for example, the call for Native American justice). People know that both parties are controlled by interests far beyond their reach, but they don’t care about this as long as they feel the plutocracy gives them what they need. Clearly JP stands against a system run by corporations, but how can the party turn such a philosophical stance into a practical message relevant to people who are simply tired of being stuck with the lesser of two evils?
