We as a society need to get rid of guns the corporate selling of "murder" I call it needs to end. There is no reason to own a gun if you are sane. We don't need to live in fear if people want to be oppressed and think people are after you then you need a PSYCHIATRIST. It has to stop. GUNS are not something we should be addicted to it should be EDUCATION. Did anyone think that the price of a gun can get you a class at a local college. That would be money well spent. That is more important educating our youth for a strong bright future not a paranoid future. Why is it that all the nut jobs have all the guns? The people who are sick in the head and can't function in society get to purchase these weapons. These are not regular handguns. They are AKA 47'S how the heck does this happen?

I always love how the Canadians assess the US; we just don't get much clear-headed thinking about our policies on this side. A CBC commentator calls these people the "child-killing lobby." http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2012/12/16/f-rfa-macdonald-guns.html

No Diff, you have a great point. The Canadian don't want guns they respect each other and humanity. I met a couple in Hawaii who were visiting from Canada. They told me they can't believe how archaic and backward we became as a country. I said I know the feeling. They went on to say People in Canada value more important things in life. It hurts me to see so many young kids. Not young by the 20's but I was referring to the preteens. Very disgraceful to have young kids bring guns to school or even carrying guns. I am 40 and my generation never even did these things. Why on earth would someone carrying a gun unless they were hunting. Even that is so deranged. Jason

This is so real! Get the guns out of our youth's hands. I am a lifeguard and saw some people carrying guns to the beach. Why on earth does someone need a gun at the beach so beyond stupid? I guess living in Florida anythings possible Mike leave footprints for life "protect our oceans"

It’s a mistake to think that the right to bear arms somehow keeps dictatorships from developing. Successful dictatorships often allow their subjects to openly own guns. Gun shops were actually very common in Saddam Hassan’s Iraq. Gun-ownership gives people a false sense of freedom even when there’s none to be had. Flourishing totalitarian regimes know very well that once a populace is armed, they’re far too busy intimidating each other to ever get around to inconveniencing the government. Thus saving the government the nuisance of having to keep the people in line in the first place.

GX, your right. A dictatorship will still come to power whether society is armed or not. These people are sick psychopaths who don't value humanity. More Guns are not the way to solve the problem. There are two ways to solve the problem or come close to it: the first is education and make a mandatory course they must take . The second way would be real regulations. People really checking and keeping up to date on any red flags that might arise. This is far from happening because the powerful corporations are controlling the illegal guns and other bad corrupt money making things in society. I am born and raised in NYC we never had gun issues like we have now. New Yorkers never wanted guns now they sound like Republican Red state people touting their fear. Americans are really in fear which I can't understand why. I don't live this way. I am confident and educated. Ciao Craig "the future barefoot lawyer"http://www.barefooters.org

Education, yes. Thank you. Getting a gun should be like getting a car. You should have to take a class, two tests, and there should also be a paper trail (a title) so ownership can be traced.

Yes, I strongly agree. If more people had to sit through a three hour lecture and take tests then things would be better. There is no need to have arms on you. People want to carry it to store, mall, anywhere. Come on people some person that is generally a good person in life might make a mistake and cut someone off at the supermarket check out line because they are in a hurry and piss someone off to blow him or her away. It does not make him a terrorist or a mean bad person. Then the person behind him pulls a gun and claims self defense. I am starting to believe Americans are mentally ill. It is sickening. Nowhere in the world do people even think this way. People are rational in most situations unless it is a real threat. Craig "the future barefoot lawyer"http://www.barefooters.org

Canadians aren't the only ones who see our nation as nothing but a state of anarchy. I do a lot of world traveling, and no matter where I go, this perception is the rule, not the exception. Craig, I know what you mean. It's a complicated sociological issue. In no other land are people conditioned to be as competitive as they are here in America. It's as if one-upmanship was the only way humans could interact. Not only has this kind of conditioning lead us to feeling like we need to be armed if our neighbor is armed, but it has also created a working class that is self-loathing. With this conditioning to be extra competitive in everything, the poor end up believing the only reason they are not rich is because they're not smart enough, or are too lazy. As Kurt Vonnegut wrote in Slaughterhouse Five: "Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves."

Yes, it is not only the gun issue it is everything. It is people who are fat, ugly, barefoot, tattoos, and you name it!!! I have never in my life ever lived in a closed minded, uneducated, backward country. People judge you on everything. Only the Good Lord judges. My friend tells me in Australia they encourage barefooting it is healthier and feel the ground below you and good for health as well anywhere. People go barefoot to stores, malls, driving. There are no laws like the lies stores and ignorant workers do in the US. They don't know laws. In Australia no one comments or looks down ever. They alll do it. They believe people should live freely and be who they want to be. It amazes me the selfishness of the US. Craig "the future barefoot lawyer"

Assuming an air of superiority, no matter how justified, will never win the argument. If one is to ever win over an opponent, one must first bring respect to the debate.

You did not attribute whoever said that. I am assuming these are famous statements since they are in bold and italicized. At any rate, I agree with these points. Perhaps we should add a rule that excludes ad hominem attacks, the type that start with statements that sound like: Your attitude is... you think that ... rather than attacking the actual substance of what that person is saying. As to an air of superiority, I would add that equivocating on a matter that has been pointed out very clearly is a form of passive-aggressiveness. Maybe we can also add these to the list?

I did not attribute because it was something I said. It was me. I always write in bold and italicized. But regardless, yes, I agree. Maybe a rule that excludes such attacks might not be a bad idea. Quote:

It's people like you that creates the crazies in the first place. By saying there is "no reason" to own a gun if you are sane, you're giving them ammunition. Sure, most people who own guns will never have a need for them, and in fact many don't even use the ones they have. Owning a handgun is really no different than keeping your money inside the mattress. It's a matter of trust. If you believe you live in a good neighborhood, trust your friends and family and the police - then you don't need a gun. On the other hand, if you don't have said trust, then if sane should acquire a gun and learn how to use it. I say this as an Anarcho-Capitalist, registered member of the Libertarian Party, who occasionally agrees with Alex Jones or Larry Pratt. I do not own guns but I do intend to own a handgun soon, along with several antique weapons. I don't see a reason to own an AK47 so long as they have them at a local shooting range. Personally I think everything short of AC-130's should be available to try at (heavily regulated if you want) shooting ranges and testing places. By the way, should we ban laser-tag, paintball, etc? because that's where gun enthusiasts get their start in my view. Not "violent video games". (Lifetime gamer, for the record)
