Hi! I'm new here, so I thought I'd contribute something to start. Take a look at this RSA presentation:

http://www.thersa.org/events/video/vision-videos/the-power-to-act-a-new-angle-on-our-toughest-problems

Did you watch it? (it's only 28 minutes long, I'll wait ... ok good).

This has been eye opening for me, and helped organized some thoughts on why certain policies have appeal to which groups. If you look at workers through this lens, they tend to fall into the "hierarchy" column. Democrats since Clinton have not offered much in this area, preferring instead to emphasize market based solutions to everything, in the frame of the rugged individual. Republicans on the other hand actually do offer hierarchy - with "successful" wealthy people on top "creating" jobs, etc. So it makes sense workers vote for them.

This along with the stuff from Lakoff and Jon Heidt provide a strong foundation on which to frame a solid political platform.
